Celebrating 12 Years of ILAC: A Joyous Annual Day Filled with Culture, Talent, and Community
On Saturday, 17th May 2025, the Indian Language and Art Centre (ILAC) proudly celebrated its 12th Anniversary Annual Day — an event that brought together over 130 attendees from across Leeds and beyond to honour the beauty of Tamil language, culture, and community spirit.
Hosted at St Barnabas Church, Leeds, the day was filled with vibrant energy, laughter, and heartfelt moments as our students — from toddlers to teens — showcased their talents on stage. From traditional Parai drumming and Bharatanatyam performances to Tamil speeches, Pattimandram (debates), folk dances, and Kalari martial arts, the event was a rich tapestry of heritage and creativity.
We were especially moved by the presence and support of so many parents, volunteers, and well-wishers who made the event truly feel like a family celebration.
A Special Message from Kim Leadbeater MP
Though she was unable to attend in person due to prior commitments, we were honoured to receive a warm and thoughtful message from Kim Leadbeater MP, who acknowledged our work with these kind words:
“I do try my best to support as many community events as I can, especially those that align with my own values around inclusion, culture, and bringing people together — and your work clearly does just that.”

She also encouraged us to connect with local groups such as the Friends of Mirfield and the North Kirklees Interfaith Forum, offering pathways to expand our community outreach and partnerships.
We are grateful for her encouragement and recognition of ILAC’s mission to build cultural bridges and empower young people through language and arts.
